The Hixon Wedding (Feb 29, 1996).

My friend Ray Hixon recently got married. To really understand why a wedding would be noteworthy, you'd have to understand Ray's sense of humor. However, just the details might provide some insight: 1996 is a leap year. The wedding was in Las Vegas...at the Graceland Chapel. With a rehearsal dinner held while knights were jousting.

I wish Ray and Angela all the best!

You can find love in the strangest of places...

A great wonder of the whirled,
desert turned to massive oasis.
Upon the bones of Indians and at death's doorstep.
The achievement of excess is crowned.

Carnival, carnival. A shifting illusion of the dream.
To sex. To money. Bright, spackled and swollen.
The sacred made grand and reduced.

The Kings and Pharoahs. The King of the Jungle.
The King. The jumbled. Senseless excess while homeless
   and runaways peddle pamphlets.
Mice ignore the puckerbush and enjoy hand outs instead.

Tribal elders journeying for 40 days in the desert.
A quest for a social security induced trance.
Passing along the sacred vision to the youth.
"Me."

A token opportunity. Playing the odds.
Click. Whirrrrrrr. Ding.
Heart. Peach. Diamonds.
Seemingly a mocking triviality but actually the big pay off.

From the spiny desert cactus is born the yellow desert rose.
To meet in the unreal. To celebrate the real.
To visit the bizarre bazaar.
Two. The great wonder of the world.
